Bringing Thoughts and Emotions Into Captivity

DAY 4

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 1 Peter 5:8 (KJV)

Day three we talked about having dominion over our thoughts and our emotions. Not allowing our flesh to react to things that are contrary to the Word of God.

We know that the challenges we face daily can be disturbing and sidetrack us from our assignment. They have a great potential of getting us caught up in our emotions with the end result having us miss our now moment in God. They will also cause you to miss the mark (sin).

Begin to cry out and ask God to crucify your flesh. Submit yourself to God and resist the devil and watch him flee.

1 Peter 5:8 (KJV)
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

If you do not have an open there is no devour. The devil’s assignment is to look for a target. Ask yourself am I a target for the devil. Know that He is walking around looking for the opportunity to pounce on you. Satan is your adversary. He is your enemy. He wants you in the flesh and wants you ultimately devoured (consumed, destroyed, overwhelmed and demolished).

Remember to catch your thoughts good or bad and bring them into captivity. Old memories will hold you hostage to your pain if they are not dealt with. As well as, don’t allow others to control your emotions nor your movements. Jesus was never controlled by His emotions or feelings the Spirit led Him.

So what do you do with those feelings or emotions that cause you to act carnal (fleshly)? You must cast them to God daily. Remember we die daily. You must kill every desire and emotion that is fleshly. You must crucify them by nailing them to the cross.

Let me show you something:

Matthew 12:43-45 (KJV)
43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

When we read these Scriptures we must understand that the Word must fill all of you (temple, your body). When dealing with emotions, thoughts and feelings you must cast out everything that is not like God. Then rehearse what the Word says.

Philippians 4:6-9 (KJV)
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
This is why it is imperative to think of things that are honest, just, pure, lovely and good report. You must displace old mindset and allow the mind of Christ to be present with you at all time. Not a few seconds later, but Christ’s mind must act in our now!

If you fill yourself up with His Word there will be no room for thoughts to take over you and leave you acting fleshly. Therefore, when thoughts, emotions or ideas come the Word of God is there not only to filter but also as a brazen wall of fire around you.

Reflections:
Today cast your cares on God! Fill your mind and heart with the Word of God. Once you cast something to God replace those things with the Word of God. Look and read Philippians 4:6-9 for a start.
